NEW INFORMATION!! On Referee Courses

Hello MYSA families,

As you may know, youth sports has been experiencing a shortage of referees in recent years.  Some of you may have experienced the problem first hand – not having a referee at your travel game last season.  It is an ongoing problem.

In an effort to acquire new referees, ECYSA (Essex County Youth Soccer Association) has offered to cover the cost of the Grade 8 Entry Level course for any potential referee aged 18+.  This applies to those already refereeing for MYSA and any one who has interest in becoming a referee – no experience needed!

The following is detailed info for this very generous offer:

To help ensure that all games are officiated by state-certified referees, both for the upcoming season and into the future, ECYSA is inviting you or someone you know to become a soccer referee. Refereeing is a great way to remain connected to the game, and provides new insights into how the game is played, all while earning some extra money. Our web site has additional reasons for becoming a referee, and outlines the steps required to do so. Check out the following links:
To become a referee, you must sign up and attend an entry level course given by the Massachusetts State Referee Committee (MSRC).

We are particularly interested in adding motivated, soccer-loving, adult (18+) men and women to our ranks. To support this, ECYSA will pay the course fee for the first 40 adult men or women from ECYSA towns who sign up and take the MSRC Grade 8 Entry Level course. In addition, ECYSA is sponsoring two of these courses:
  • January 26 in Lawrence (click here for more information)
  • Lawrence currently has 8 people signed up. A minimum of 10 is required for a course to take place. Sign up now!!
  • March 10 in Danvers (Polish Club) This is now a confirmed date & location!)
If you are 18 or older and attend one of these courses, ECYSA will pay your fee directly. All you need to do is sign up with us before registering for the course by filling out the pre-registration form. No need to pay MSRC up front. ECYSA will be present to answer any league-specific questions you might have. Representatives from referee uniform/equipment vendors will also be on hand. ECYSA will also buy you lunch!

If you are 18 or older and are unable to attend one of these courses, but would still like to become a referee, ECYSA will reimburse you upon successful completion of the course you do attend. To get reimbursed, fill out the pre-registration form.
