Hello MYSA Town Coaches & Families,

We are more than halfway through our Fall Season and I hope the kids are enjoying it. Please see the message below from Dean Sidell, President of ECYSA.

It is imperative that all MYSA players, coaches, and spectators behave in a respectful manner during all games despite the on-field situation. The abuse of referees is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by ECYSA or MYSA. If there is an issue during the game, there are ways for us to address the incident appropriately through post-game reporting.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Sincerely,

Michele Cushman
President / Town Director
Methuen Youth Soccer Association

Subject: Game time behavior is out of control

Dear All,

ECYSA prides itself as a league in being appropriate and supportive on both sidelines. Over the years we have all worked hard to communicate our behavioral expectations and to hold people accountable. We have made great strides in this area, but this fall we seem to have taken a step backwards.

Through the first five weeks of this season we have seen a significant uptick in cautions and red cards to coaches and players as well as warnings and ejections of spectators.

During the last couple of seasons there were only 5 red cards per season, and we are at almost twice that this season along with over 70 yellow cards, 40 of which are from coaches and spectators.

Coaches and spectators alike ask why we cannot find enough people who want to referee on a regular basis?? Well, I am sure this behavior is not helping. We have even had substitute referee's, people who agree to referee because there is not an assigned referee available, get verbally abused and ridiculed on the field.

Bottom line - this needs to stop.

If coaches have an issue with a referee, whether it be a call on the field or their demeanor during check in please file a report. ECYSA reads every report and we do work with referees to improve their work on the field and their interaction with coaches and teams.

Please tell all of your players, coaches and spectators that they need to control themselves. Enjoy the game and encourage the players on the field. I am going to also encourage the referees to be less lenient and work to call out inappropriate behavior as we move through the balance of the season.

Thank you for your help in keeping our league safe and fun for everyone and for helping us to both communicate this message and help to enforce appropriate behavior across the league.

Dean

Good Morning G8 Families,

I hope you are all enjoying the season so far. I wanted to let you know about an exciting partnership between Mass Youth Soccer, Methuen Youth Soccer and Bay State Physical Therapy.

A core focus of the partnership is on the prevention of injuries amongst players. With clinical research on injuries and a knowledge of the physical demands that soccer places on growing bodies, Bay State Physical Therapy clinicians will be working closely with coaches, players, and their families throughout the season with:

  • Early season screening and identification of precursors to injuries
  • Individualized exercise recommendations for players deemed at increased risk of injury
  • Proactive attention to muscle weakness and imbalances

This partnership places Mass Youth Soccer and Methuen Youth Soccer athletes in an optimal position to excel this season.

Bay State will be at the Tenney fields Saturday, October 23rd from 12:30pm - 3:30pm offering free injury prevention screenings for all of our G8 players.

This is a great opportunity to talk to one of their physical therapists about best practices or to get any questions about injury prevention answered. I encourage you to stop by and see them before or after your games.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

Hello MYSA Coaches and Families,

It is hard to believe that October is here already! With it comes several fall events that will impact traffic as we all travel around Essex County for games. The Topsfield Fair has opened and there will be a lot of extra traffic in Topsfield and surrounding towns for the next couple of weeks.

We can't forget Salem! The traffic in and around Salem will be very difficult! There is also road work on Rte. 128 that will see lanes being closed.

Please take these things into consideration and allow for more time to get to the towns you are traveling to. Please drive safely and enjoy the rest of the season!

Sincerely,

Good evening Grades PreK & K families,

Please make note that MKS has fixed their gate and would like us to return to our normal process of driving around to the back to enter the parking lot.

As always, there is no parking allowed on either side of Griffin Brook Park Drive or the MKS Driveway. Also, please do not park in the front parking lot or insurance company parking lot and no dogs are allowed at the field per MKS.

Please help us keep the field they generously donate to our league by following their regulations. We appreciate your help!

Hello U8 Parents,

We had a great first weekend at CGS as we began another soccer season. As we move into the second Saturday of Games, we wanted to let you all know about some field logistics as it relates to spectator seating and a COVID Guidelines reminder.

There are now three fields set up on the CGS Upper Field and this Saturday, September 18th will see three games all starting at 9:00 am. Several field rules will be in place:

No Spectators are to sit between the fields, please sit on the outside sidelines, on the hill closest to CGS school, and you can sit along the end lines at the fence end as well. The hill and the opposite end line will be the only locations for the spectators for the center field. There will be a line for spectators to sit behind at the fence end of the fields.

An overview of the field setup and spectator areas is below:

In addition, we saw far too much relaxation in observing Social Distancing last weekend. Please try to maintain some degree of distance between yourself and those outside of your families when choosing your location to watch the game.

Free MYSA Player Injury Prevention Screenings

Good Evening G8 Families,

Bay State will be at the Tenney fields Saturday, September 18th from 12:30pm - 3:30pm offering free injury prevention screenings for all of our G8 players.

This is a great opportunity to talk to one of their physical therapists about best practices or to get any questions about injury prevention answered. I encourage you to stop by and see them before or after your games. We will have another date later in the season as well for those who can't stop by this weekend.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

Good evening U6 and U4 Tiny Tykes families. Late into the night we learned of a gate issue at the MKS fields. At this time the driveway we normally enter from is gated and locked. Therefore, we ask that cars PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY into the side driveway and enter and exit between the cones carefully. It is a two-way pattern with enough room for both lanes of traffic in and out. There is also a coned area for player safety to the entry we are asking players to use tomorrow near the porta potties. We will have a League representative there to help. Please be patient and we appreciate your understanding. See you all in the morning!

Good Evening Methuen Soccer Families,

It is hard to believe our fall soccer season is upon us and our first games are this weekend.

I wanted to reach out to you all regarding this weekends games for players in Grades 3-8. This Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of 9/11 attacks. Prior to the start of each game on Saturday, ECYSA would like to take a moment to commemorate and remember.

All teams have been asked to line up close enough to the spectator sideline so that both players, referees and spectators can hear and participate in a moment of silence.

I wanted to share this information with you all so that you were aware it was happening and would be prepared to honor the lives of those who were lost, recognize the first responders and the armed forces who responded to the events of that day, and to recognize the lives lost during the recent events in Afghanistan.

I look forward to a wonderful opening weekend and a fun season.

Sincerely,

Your player will need to bring a size 5 soccer ball, shin guards and a water bottle to every practice and game. Footwear should be soccer cleats and we always recommend a pair of lace-able sneakers in your bag as a backup in case a referee does not approve your players footwear on game day for various reasons. Your player will be provided with a team uniform to wear each week consisting of a team jersey (and an alternate jersey), black soccer shorts and black soccer socks in the size you provided during your player registration. Uniforms will be handed out before first games and please bring BOTH jerseys to EVERY game in case you are required to switch to the alternate kit for a game.

Please make sure your player is not wearing any jewelry or hard metal including earrings, zippers, rivets in sweatshirts, headbands, etc. The only exception to this rule is a medical bracelet taped down with medical tape if needed.

G8 plays in about a 1½-hour time block on Saturdays which consists of two 35-minute halves with a 5-minute half time and running time and they will have two 1½-hour practices during the week in the evening (coaches choice based on field availability). Remember, it's all about fun while they learn the game. The game schedule will be released by ECYSA closer to the end of August.
Our free summer conditioning clinic with Coach Henry is set to begin tomorrow at Nicholson Stadium Lower Turf on 8/17 and 8/19 and on the Nicholson Stadium back field on 8/24. G8 is from 7 pm - 7:45 pm on all 3 of those days. Please wear sneakers or cleats and have your ball, water bottle and bug spray in your bag.
Our seasonal DICK'S Sporting Goods weekend is coming up 8/27 - 8/30 before the season officially kicks off. The online coupon will be available and posted the week of the event, or you can use this coupon in the Salem, NH store. Please use the MYSA specific coupon as it directly impacts the amount of support our program receives each season while saving you 20% on your equipment in the process.
We look forward to hitting the fields with you!

See you soon,
